The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost more than just a game on Monday.

Chris Godwin left the field in clear pain and discomfort, and he’s now likely to be ruled out for the season.

The star wide receiver reportedly suffered a dislocated ankle and could have a season-ending injury.

When asked about that, Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield was clearly affected.

The former No. 1 pick stated that a great player and teammate like Godwin deserved better, adding about how important he is to the team (via NFL on CBS).

Godwin was in the midst of a career-best season.

He was trailing only Ja’Marr Chase for the most receiving yards in the league (576), and he had clearly developed a strong rapport with Mayfield.

To make things even worse, he’s slated to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Needless to say, this is going to take a big toll on his market value, especially considering the fact that this isn’t his first big injury.

The Bucs took Godwin out of Penn State in the third round of the NFL Draft in 2017, and he’s been a perennial contributor to the team regardless of who’s been at quarterback.

He never failed to log at least 500 receiving yards in a season, and he has four 1,000-yard campaigns.

He was also instrumental in their Super Bowl win during the brief Tom Brady era.

The Bucs will also likely be without Mike Evans for a couple of weeks, and a once-promising season is looking in jeopardy right now.
